This Wall Eats Smog

Design and technology fighting pollution

A building in Mexico City sports a wall with a shape inspired by ocean coral and a coating that breaks down smog into less harmful substances.

FULL Creative designer Brooke Barnhardt spotted the building on National Geographic. (This photo via Euronews.) “I loved the design of the tiles covering the building,” she says. “Then I realized they weren’t just purely decorative, but smog-eating! It sounded magical…and unbelievable. It was astounding that something so beautiful could be used to clean the air. It’s an inspiration to all creatives to use design to combat climate change.”

With smart design and new technologies we can keep our environment healthy and look good doing it! What’s the best eco-friendly design you’ve seen?
